"If you wanna know how to make phatty dreads, go HERE" - Chaos, Aug 29 2001

"To get dreads that look cool and stick straight up just rub your hair in circles very hard for about 20 mins a day. Make sure you always rub in the same direction. Don't wash your hair at all and don't comb it. After about a week you will see them start forming." - Ski or Die, Aug 16 2001

"what is a good water wax....that will hold pretty tight but will still come out in one washing....does anyone know how to temporarily dread with this stuff...or is it the same way as just having hairspray and what not...." - JoanofNarc, Aug 12 2001

"can someone tell me if having dreads has any affect on balding in the future?" - ryan , Aug 07 2001

"this not a tip...but everyone who be planing to do dreads...do it...they look hell a tite...cuz of gay ass ricky martin everyone has spikes now! so i decided to do dreads" - 12 in, Jul 17 2001

"For dreadlocks, if you want temporary ones you take a small section of hair, twist it around but not so much that it starts to coil, drench it with hair spray, wait for it to dry, then go over it with a straightening iron so it doesn't come out immediately. It doesn't last long ( maybe 10 hours or so) but it's a good way if you don't want real dreds. (DON'T BRUSH!! unfortunately I had to TELL SOMEONE THAT ONCE)" - Ginny, Jun 05 2001

"how can i sucessfully dread my hair?" - stoney, Apr 25 2001

"To get phatty dreds first section your hair off. Then grab a section and comb backwards from the ends toward your scalp, letting hairs gradually be pulled back to form a big tubeshaped knot. Then you shmear toothpaste on your palms and roll the little knots out into tubeshaped formations. Its really easy to get them to stand up without any gel or hairspray or anything. But, this will give you baby dredlocks and if you leave them in for a few months youll have some real dreds." - thea, Mar 11 2001

"right now im expiramenting with the tips you guys have here... but does anyone know how to get angelina jolie's "gone in 60 seconds" dreds? any help will be greatly appreciated and ill send a pic if it works out!"- Carady, Mar 05 2001

twist little bits of your hair with water wax and and u get this kind of dread look. if ya do it with gel, wait till it dries>or just sleep in it and don't wash it out for a week or so(--it doesn't matter how long). NE way it's really scrapy, it looks pretty cool - Meredith

Heres an easy way to do instant dreds. What you need: Pipecleaners(the bendy coloured fury things)and perming solution.divide you hair into sections take a pipe cleaner(join 1,2 3or more together if you have long hair)wrap the hair around the pipe cleaner tightly and fasten at the end.pour the hair solution all over your hair, wait for 40 mins wash it out and let your hair dry then after that unwhind your hair and you have dreds! It worked for me.Don't wash your hair for 6 weeks or more make sure to put lots of glue type gels in to help it along with its hideous matting process!^_^ - Kitty

"Here's a good way to make dreadlocks, providing you have somewhat long hair already. First, wash your hair, comb it out and leave it wet. Then divide your hair into all the sections where you want a lock to be. Take that strand of hair and twist it so much that it starts to twist back up itself. When you get to the point where you can fold it in half, looped, and it twists itself into a two-strand rope, put a hair tie around it so it ties the very end (all the bristly hair ends bit) to the part at the top that's near your scalp. Do this to all of the sections (takes forever, I know). Now you have a head full of medusa twists. Now leave this mess for about 3-5 days, making sure you sleep on it. It will quit looking like nice, shiny twists and start to look like ratty, matted ropes. (I usually take it out the 2nd or 3rd day since I only wanted the medusa twists but one time I was almost too late.) Take the hair ties off and untwist the twists thus undoubling them. Leave them as is, maybe hairspraying them to keep them more together. Soon they will have become kind of twisty dreadlocks. Voila, "Ratty Dread"." - The Rat's Whiskers
